Inference Based Therapy for OCD

Inference Based Therapy for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is a form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy that examines the conclusions a person with OCD makes related to their fears and the “story” they tell themselves that makes the conclusion feel true. We examine the reasoning patterns the person is using and also try to highlight the value of staying in the here and now as opposed to the “what ifs” or “maybes” that often run wild in the mind. This treatment is different from Exposure Response Prevention treatment in that the emphasis is on recognizing how far from the senses the person goes when getting locked into their OCD story. The hope is the person will be able to resist going into their OCD “bubble” of reasoning and story telling and stay more present in their actual here and now senses.

This is a brief overview of Inference Based Therapy with Dr. Debbie Warman in Carmel, Indiana.
