Social Anxiety

If you have social anxiety, you may find it hard to be around others due to how nervous you get around people.  You may be so locked in your head while with others that you have a hard time talking to people.  Social anxiety revolves around the idea of fear of negative evaluation – you become afraid of what people are thinking about you and/or convinced people are saying negative things about you.  It certainly makes interacting with others unpleasant and stressful!

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focuses on the thoughts you have and teaches you how to challenge those thoughts, even when those negative thoughts seem credible.  It also focuses on effective ways to manage through events with others to make ruminating about interactions less likely and less damaging to how you are feeling.  The goal is to be able to not only be able to be around others, but also to find you enjoy doing so!
